3 things to know before starting in Fiverr (Beginner’s Perspective)
Hey, guys, this is Jeffrey and today I am going to help you start your side projects into money-earning machines. So let’s get started
Know your Gig:
The first and foremost thing that you should do when you are going to start your career as a freelancer especially on websites like Fiverr.com or Freelancer.com or Upwork.com, is what kind of a gig that you are going to offer.
Because many Freelancers are trying to start their career. (P.S Am not a full-fledged freelancer yet because am still studying and I have done some side projects for money and also for free a.k.a for Exposure). They will be taking the leap of faith which is extremely good but some people will jump before doing their homework about their content.
Many big brands like Apple won’t plan on creating a product that they wish the consumer should buy but create the products which the consumer wants or needs.
That’s why you should know what you are going to offer and whether your prospects would actually require that offer.
So know what your gig is about.
The reason why many people fail at the beginning is that they don’t know what they’re going to do. So it affects the continuous process because if you just post some random gigs and you think you can do it and if in case that gig generates an order it will be hard to communicate your requirements and leads you to either cancellation or bad reviews.
Major Types of gigs
There are many gigs out there which are really famous and there may be a lot of competition but every single person’s creativity is unique which may get you an order and if you are a beginner you have the advantage of fixing low prices which leads to more leads and sales and the buyer would also love them because they are getting high-quality digital products for low prices.
Some of them are as follows:
1.Video editing
2.Photo editing
3.Graphic designing
4.Copywriting
5.Data analytics
6.Programming etc
Your skill comes into place:
Now you can create unique Gigs which only a few people can do. For me, it was audio branding for small business and progress bars with varieties of elements. For you, it can an Excel skill or Alexa skill or anything which you believe is great.
Know your Communication:
This is another thing you should keep in mind. Because if you do proper communication then there is a probability of signing more clients. If you have technical skills but you can’t properly communicate your service means then the chances are less.
This communication doesn’t mean you should be great in English grammar and all. You should be able to convey what you need and what you are going to do and your process in simple terms. Don’t put too much of jargons (business terms). Because in here “You are the expert”. So keep the conversation as simple as possible.
Asking for requirement:
This is an important element in communication. For Eg; If you are going to make a short form of video content from a larger video content means you should ask about their title preference and subtitles and anything which the buyer’s business relates to.
That’s why I always follow the rule which I created for myself which is “Know the essence”. Get to know about the buyer’s business, preferences which actually helps you in providing more insights about the product that you should deliver and also how your gig can be improved in the upcoming orders.
Don’t be shy to ask the buyer thinking that “I should all this”. Because if you do everything under your perception and assumptions it will only lead to more revision and it won’t portray the views of the buyer but yours. Remember you are the expert but the product you are making is for the buyer.
(P.S. I have been in that place trust me, it doesn’t feel good)
Know your Time:
Saving the best for the last. Know how to allocate your time when it comes to your side projects. Because if you are going to completely rely on it means you can put all your time in it.
If not (like me) then know what your priorities are then fixing the time accordingly. I will be out of the house for around 12 hours then 6 hours of sleep. The left out 6 hours will be consumed by either college work or my social life. Withing that I have to manage.
Your situation can be different. But your time is valuable so keep that in mind before putting it out.
Bonus Tip: Honesty
Listen, it all comes down whether you can actually do it or not. So don’t be afraid to say no if that particular prospect is not for you. You can’t make everyone your customer or buyer.
Cheer up. There are 7.7 Billion people in this world am sure another order will definitely come.
Don’t set high expectations to your buyer. Tell them what you can do and what is best for them. Remember am saying this again and again “You are the expert”. So deliver according to the convenience of your prospect with your amazing idea inserted into that project.
