This blog contains a section of a podcast — Web3 Digital Marketing Entrepreneur.

Jeff: From a marketing perspective, do you need these coding skills in web3 marketing? Yeah, because web three has solidity, and many things are there. It’s my understanding that one thing that I mentioned, back in those days, you didn’t have that many resources, but even now, you have a lot of resources, but it’s really hard to identify which is true. Like multiple people saying multiple things, crypto gurus, or blockchain gurus.

Emily: No, you don’t need to know anything in terms of technicalities. So if you want to market in the web three space, you only need your web two foundational marketing knowledge and skills.

Previously I wouldn’t have suggested entering the space without web three knowledge or crypto knowledge because it was too difficult to learn and keep up. But now we have so many resources available; we are going backward. So when I was leading the last fund I was working with, we were hiring two web people without web three knowledge because they brought a new perspective.

They had foundational marketing knowledge that the web three people needed to have. So that’s all you need. You need your web two marketing knowledge. It would be best if you were proactive. You have to understand that the market is very quick to change. So what works this week might not work next week, but you’ve got to be able to change constantly and adapt to the markets. That makes sense.

And one point you mentioned is that the change happened quickly in web two space. It wasn’t that much because there is still a stagnant methodology. Like, if you do this, you will get results. But that’s not the same in web three, right? No, it’s a testing mindset. So, for example, when I was working, I used to get brought into the exchange space exchanges to fix specific problems.

Web3 Marketers, don’t worry about the coding part!

So I used to go in to fix their onboarding flow for deposits because they were getting lots of sign-ups, but then they were not converted to deposits, which was their action that they wanted to get to make money. What part of this onboarding of our user journey is broken?

Why are we not seeing deposits? And so being able to test and have a testing mindset, like, okay, so if I change this in the onboarding journey, it might work. This is what might work and might not work. Right. But always having that testing mindset means you can justify what you’re doing. It’s just a test. We’re just going to see if it works or not.

And two, you don’t get stuck in the weeds. Like, you don’t get stuck doing one thing. You’re like, okay, it’s a test. Let’s move quickly. Let’s see if it works. If it does, let’s keep doing it. If it doesn’t, let’s move to the next thing. It keeps you moving.
